Transformer Line: Takara Encore Series (Japanese Reissue)
Ratchet is the Autobots' Chief Medical Officer. If something's broke, he can fix it. Ratchet is known for his irreverent bedside manner; he loves having a good time, and his party-loving nature has given him a dry wit. He is not a particularly mighty warrior, which sometimes leads him to believe that he is expendable. Optimus Prime has trouble convincing Ratchet that this is far from the truth.
Ratchet is portrayed as an ambulance vehicle in the cartoon. The toy vehicle mode is fairly accurate to the cartoon. Just like Ironhide, transformation for Ratchet is fairly easy. However, just like Ironhide, the robot mode suffers and is a major downfall for the toy. Ratchet has no head like his counterpart and I do not have the after-market attachment that resembles his G1 head. The robot itself can stand on a tank like vehicle and use a gun on it, oddly enough this feature was never really portrayed in the cartoon.
Just like Ironhide, Ratchet was not given the proper respect in his toy mode. Ratchet would rank with Ironhide as one of my least favorite G1 toys, but in the cartoon many Autobots (and some Decepticons) owe their sparks to Ratchet and the Autobots could not do without him.
